Nexsan QLC E32F all-flash array that is 7 times faster than 10K HDDs

Nexsan has announced the E32F storage array, which is an intermediate between the low-end 18-drive bay E18F all-flash array, and the high-end 48P and 60P E series arrays.

The E48P and E60P, available in standard 4U form factor enclosures, hold 48 and 60 HDDs and flash memory, respectively. The 32 bay storage array, E32F, like the E18F, has a 2U enclosure but provides twice the space for a TLC (3-bits per cell) or QLC SSD instead of 18.

Although QLC flash drives use a 33.3% denser (33.3%) NAND than TLC, the E32F’s (uncompressed) capacity can reach 245 TB with full QLC and 491 TB with TLC. This is because the maximum TLC capacity supported by Nexsan is 15.36 TB and QLC is limited to 7.68 TB.

Even with these limitations, QLC E32F has been announced by Nexsan as the most compact and high density QLC SSD system on the market. The company claims that the QLC E32F, which costs less than TLC E32F, runs seven times faster than 10,000 RPM hard drives, making it an ideal replacement for HDDs in computing where performance is critical.

With two optional enclosures, effective system capacity can be expanded beyond 2 petabytes.

The E32F supports 16 Gbit/s Fibre Channel and 10 Gbit/s iSCSI interfaces. The bundled software provides power management, system snapshot storage, replication and integration with Windows, VMware, Veeam, Commvault, Hyper-V and Xen.
